The best social media strategy is the one that works for your business. It will differ from your competitors because your company has a unique culture that creates specific expectations from your customers. Your relationship with them is defined by how well you meet those expectations. This has to be the primary consideration when choosing social media platforms and participation tactics.
The challenge with social media presence is that it’s extremely easy to fall for several misunderstandings about what it can do for you. However, this soon becomes very clear after you’ve spent some time actually doing the work involved. If this is where you’re at, you know that it can be a massive job and you may feel a bit exhausted as a result.
With proper planning as well as successful execution, social media marketing may be effective for practically any organisation. In fact, in a survey of just over 350 marketers which was recently conducted, social media marketing had the greatest percentage of respondents (96% ) who claimed that they planned to increase or keep their social media marketing budgets exactly the same over the next 12 months. In addition, social media marketing had the third-highest average ROI rating.
However, before you dive headfirst in there are some things that you need to keep in mind.
Social Media Marketing Has A Very Definite Cost
One of the ultimate advantages of social media marketing which marketers like to play up is the fact that it’s free. And, yes, it won’t cost you anything in order to claim your company’s social media profiles, flesh them out or post regularly – at least not money wise. The challenge is that even though you won’t necessarily have to spend money to fund your strategy, you will spend lots of time – and ultimately, time costs money.
It takes hours of work in order to build out your profiles in addition to several hours a week to even keep the most basic, active presence. Add up those hours and you’ll find that the amount of time that social media marketing does “cost” will become clear.
There’s More Than One Way To Do Social Media Marketing
If you want to get some help with your social media marketing, there’s plenty of it online, both for free and paid postings That said, be aware that there’s not one correct way which works for everyone. In fact, what you’ll probably find is that what actually works for you is a blend of a number of different strategies that have worked elsewhere in the past.
Volume Is Everything
Your success with social media marketing depends on the number of followers which you have. When it comes to marketing on social media, volume is everything. It’s pretty challenging to launch a successful crowdfunding campaign, for example, unless you already have a pretty decent following to market to. The same goes for Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram, YouTube, email lists and just about any other platform that you choose. Success comes from having followers and building that list takes time.
