Across all businesses as well as industries, the low-effort, high-reward projects should jump toward the top of the list of things to execute. And it’s nowhere more pertinent than tackling technical SEO issues on your website.

Focus on easy-to-recognise, easy-to-fix problems. Nearly all of these issues can be found in an afternoon, and it’s possible that they can solve months’ worth of website traffic problems. While there may not be innovative, complex issues that will fix SEO, there are easy things to check right now.

What is SEO visibility?

Perhaps the most simple way to define ‘SEO visibility’ would be this:

SEO visibility is a metric which tells you what percentage of all potential organic clicks (from SERPs) a website is receiving for a given keyword.

Put it another way, SEO visibility is not to be interpreted in terms of raw traffic numbers, but rather your position in the Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs) themselves in relation to your competitors. We know that this might sound a bit complicated, so let’s break it down on an example:

  • 100% SEO visibility is certainly the best edge case that essentially never happens. It would imply that your website owns all the organic places in Google for a given keyword and all the “clickable” SERP features.
  • 35% SEO visibility is once you rank #1 for the keyword of your choosing. Here, 35% represents the number of clicks that you can usually expect to get when ranking #1 for a search term. So, for instance, if you rank, say, number 10, your SEO visibility is at 2%. From there, it goes like you would expect.
  • Lastly, ranking outside of the first page offers you 0% SEO visibility. After all, page two of Google is the best location to conceal a dead body!

In addition, the values add up in case you take up more than one spot. So for example, being on #1 and #2 means 55% SEO visibility.

Whether you have a couple of SEO issues or dozens of them, you should attempt to tackle them one by one. Sure, you might not be able to get to them all correct straight away.  But, if you ignore them, it will simply create more problems in the long run.
