What do web design processes entail?

DSM Digital School of Marketing - web design

Well-designed websites offer aesthetics, attract visitors and help people understand the product, company, and branding through a variety of indicators, including visuals, text, and interactions. There are a couple of features that you can find in all good web design.

Home Page

The homepage is the page which often attracts the most attention from design teams. A lot of time, as well as effort, is spent on perfecting both its visual design in addition to content — much more as opposed to any other page on the website.

When putting together a homepage, one of the first and most important tasks that web designers should do is to describe its purpose:

  • The purpose of a homepage should be clearly related to the goal of the site.
  • To create an effective homepage, find a clear answer to the following question: What is the main thing I would like my visitors to do after they see the homepage?
  • It might be subscribing to a membership programme,
  • Purchasing a product, or
  • Signing up for a newsletter.

Whatever it may be, make that your primary goal when designing the homepage.

Elements of a home page

Clear navigation

The navigation bar is one of the most-trafficked areas of any website. This means that if you’re not highlighting its most important aspects, your visitors may get frustrated with the experience and abandon your site in favour of something that caters to their needs with more clarity.

Clear CTAs

A visitor stumbles upon your homepage and likes what they see—but now what? CTAs, or calls to action, give visitors a clear path to follow while on your site and pushes them along the sales funnel.

Slogan

Your homepage needs a slogan. Think of it as a way to tell your visitors what your site is all about in under five seconds. It needs to be short and powerful. It needs to highlight the benefit of your service in one simple line.

About Us Page

The about us page is usually used by all types of businesses in order to give customers additional insight into who is involved with a given business in addition to exactly what it does. This is a straightforward goal which nearly all companies have to fulfil in some fashion or another.

However, there are a number of added reasons why about us pages are common fixtures on company websites:

  • The text on these pages is a digital marketing tool for a business, which entices potential customers with both the history as well as the aspirations of a business.
  • This page adds a human element.
  • About us pages are incorporated into search-engine marketing efforts as a way to find potential customers through Web searches.

The about us page answers the following questions about the brand:

  • Who or what is the brand?
  • What does the brand do?
  • When did it start doing what it is doing?
  • Where is the brand or company located?
  • How is the brand accomplishing what it claims to do?
